The centerpiece of any bedroom has got to be the bed. You can find beds that are rich and luxurious, or humble and made from straw.

We see evidence of beautiful beds in ancient civilizations. The legs of the couches on which the ancient Egyptians slept were beautifully carved to resemble various animals. The couches of the Greeks were used for both sleeping and eating, and were specially designed so that both activities were comfortable on them. Beds continued to become larger and more elaborate over time. State beds were often the prized possessions of the wealthy and nobles. These ornate beds were often hung with rich fabrics such as silk or velvet and served as a symbol of wealth and social status.

Most people theses days prefer a much more simple bed frame. There are so many different styles of beds you are sure to find one to match your style and your budget. A good starting place is to decide which style, size, and design you are looking for and what options you have within your budget. It is important that a bed be in correct proportion to the room in which it is being placed.

For a bedroom with a low ceiling a sleigh bed, which has a headboard and a footboard that are both curved up, is an excellent choice. Some four poster beds feature elaborate canopies that can even be closed at night. Beds can also be made from metals like brass and iron, or have headboards and footboards that are upholstered. Beds with upholstered headboards are perfect for sitting back and enjoying a good book.

If you frequently have a need for an extra bed you may want to go with a model that has an additional bed underneath it that can be pulled out in just minutes. Those who are short on storage space may wish to purchase a bed supported on a platform that features drawers and storage space underneath. There are even beds that can be complexly folded into the wall called “Murphy beds” which are great space savers. Other options when it comes to beds include children’s beds, bunk beds, air mattresses, and water beds.

Make sure you do some research prior to purchasing your bed, as it will be the centerpiece of your bedroom. You will have a beautiful and relaxing space if you choose the correct style and size for your bedroom.
