When it comes to beds there is an almost unlimited amount of choices in terms of styles, sizes, and materials.

Not too long ago most beds were constructed using natural materials such as animal skins, ferns, and straw. There have been many modern innovations in the world of beds. Most beds now feature a bed frame, a box spring or divan to support the mattress, a mattress, pillows to rest our heads on, and a quilt or duvet to warm us on cold nights.

People do all kinds of things on their beds, including reading, sitting, and relaxing, although the primary purpose for a bed is sleeping. The bed we choose is a very important decision, as we spend as much as 30% of our lives sleeping. It is important to know what kinds of beds are available and choose the one that works best for our needs.

• Adjustable Beds – These beds often allow you to relax completely as you can change the position of the bed so that your body will not be in a position that causes tension in your muscles. You can adjust the bed for both sitting and lying down.

• Divan Beds – These beds are great for providing extra space as they feature a box base that can be used for storage and a mattress. This bed is also very comfortable.

• Bunk Beds – These stackable bed sets usually feature two beds. While many people think about using bunk beds in children’s rooms, they are a great idea for any room that is short on space, such as a cabin loft.

• Loft Beds – Loft beds are raised into the air creating room for storage underneath them.

• Platform Beds – Legs or other framing are the base for a solid platform on which a mattress is placed.

• Futon Beds – This is the perfect solution to the spare bed dilemma. During the day these beds make a great sofa, and at night they can be quickly converted to an emergency bed.

• Iron Beds – These strong beds are very durable and a great choice for just about any bedroom. The iron frame is an essential part of the support of the bed.
