Your personal style and taste will dictate what
you consider to be a romantic bedroom.
A really romantic bedroom is full of those things that are luxurious and
sensual to you. These items should have personal significance, and do
not need to be expensive. Fill the space with things that are
comfortable and familiar, such as your favorite poetry, antique vases,
soft blankets, and decorative pillows.
When it comes to colors for romantic bedrooms, your personal preferences
should be your guide. One common color pallet includes maroons, deep
greens, ecru, and gold, while another includes pale shades of safe,
ivory, pink, and blue. To create a relaxing and restful environment be
mindful not to incorporate more than two or three colors into your
design scheme.
The Bed
Both wood and metal beds work well for a romantic decorating style. You
can use bed linens to make any bed frame more romantic. Some of the most
romantic styles of bed frames include canopy or spire four poster beds.
You can create a sense of mystery and romance by draping fabric around
your bed. You can create by canopy without having a canopy bed by
attaching a round coronet to the ceiling above the bed and draping
fabric from it. You want your bed to be inviting and appealing, as it is
the centerpiece of your bedroom.
Romantic Bedding and Window Treatments
You can sense the allure from beds that have lots of soft pillows piled
on them. Fabrics used for romantic bedding should be soft and luxurious,
including velvet, silk, chenille and sateen. One of the most inviting
things you can have on your bed is sheets that have just been cleaned.
The window treatments should be constructed from sheer airy fabrics to
give the room an airy look and feel. You can create a very romantic look
by draping a valance scarf over the top of a curtain rod, allowing the
fabric to flow alongside the curtains and pool up on the floor below.
Other Furniture
A great idea for romance is a separate seating area in the bedroom.
Think about how fun it would be to cuddle up on a scroll-back
upholstered chaise. Another great idea is to have several small accent
tables with romantic touches such as candles with an alluring smell or
fresh flowers.
You can add to the romantic appeal of the room with the addition of a
full-length dressing mirror. You will have the perfect place to apply
makeup or write a letter to your love with the addition of an
antique-chic secretairé. This piece is incredibly romantic, but also
very practical.
Romantic Lighting
Think about incorporating dimmer switches on as many lamps and lights as
you can when you are planning your romantic bedroom lighting. You want
to be able to use the dimmers switches to adjust the brightness of the
light in the room to your mood and needs. Some very romantic lighting
fixtures include accent lamps and wall sconces. Candles are probably the
most romantic lighting you can have in your bedroom, especially when
they are highlighted by beautiful candlesticks. You will get a warm soft
glow around the room if you place votives all around the room,
especially if they are placed on a silver tray to reflect the light back
into the room.
Organization and Clutter
Clutter is a real romance killer. You want to have a well organized
bedroom, and remember to always put everything back in its place. Think
about using wicker baskets to store and organize your items and add
charm to the room.
The room will be most romantic if it includes personal touches
throughout, so don’t forget to make it truly your own.
